Zanpakutô Name: 謎 Nazo (lit. Enigma)
Zanpakutô Spirit: (Nazo is shown in both pictures for Jin’s appearance) Although not implied by name until Bankai, Nazo takes on the form of a large, pitch-black wolf; wearing a chain around its neck similar to a collar and eyes glowing with a dark purple energy. While standing on all fours, Nazo stands roughly at Jin’s waist which is quite tall for a wolf. If Nazo were to stand on his hind legs, he would even stand taller than Jin, although only slightly. All of these factors together give Nazo quite the intimidating appearance; and that’s before even factoring his deep, almost growl-like voice. In fact, sometimes Nazo will simply growl instead of talking to get Jin’s attention; although this would suggest that whatever is going on is very serious.
Personality wise, Nazo matches his appearance, to a certain degree. As a natural born hunter, Nazo often times relies on his instincts; something common among all animals. Of course, Nazo isn’t simply a beast driven by primal instincts; showing the ability to solve problems through critical analysis. Granted, being a Zanpakuto spirit, one would expect no less from him. Although his voice is rough and powerful, Nazo has also shown the natural leadership skills that come so easily to Jin; giving one the perception that Nazo is the “Alpha Dog” of whatever pack he’s in. Although Jin is also the leader type, Nazo has shown no hostility towards him; instead trying to teach him the instincts of a great leader. In the end, Nazo is slightly kinder than either his appearance or general personality let on.
As you might expect from the form that Nazo takes, Jin’s Inner World incorporates many elements of a forest. For starters, it is always night in his Inner World. However, it is also always a full moon in his inner World; the light from the moon enough to illuminate the surroundings quite nicely. Although his Inner World is located in a dense forest, it is actually a large circle, clear of any trees. The trees in the Inner World simply make up the perimeter of the area. In the center of the clearing, there is a tall boulder, flat at the top as if it is a type of throne. Normally, upon entering his Inner World, jin will appear in front of the large boulder, Nazo sitting on top of it.
Sealed Zanpakutô :In its sealed form, Nazo takes the form of two wakizashi, or Japanese short sword. Each sword has a black sheath with a gold/tan-ish floral pattern on it. They each have a black wrap around their hilt and a silver pommel, along with a simple, circular Tsuba, or guard. As a wakizashi, each blade is shorter than a standard katana, making it easier to fight with both blades at once.
Shikai Description: (As seen in his appearance) Jin’s Shikai is slightly unorthodox when combaired to Nazo’s sealed state. While keeping two swords, Nazo’s Shikai takes the form of two double bladed swords. The size of each blade is slightly longer than that of his sealed wakizashi’s , making it seem as if his Shikai might be somewhat difficult to use. This, however, would be incorrect, as Jin is very skilled with the form his Shikai takes; able to catch an opponent off guard with slashes coming from seemingly every direction.
Shikai Abilities: Nazo’s main Shikai ability is the summoning and control of four wolfs made out of a sort of semi-solid energy (each wolf correlates to one of the four blades of Jin’s two swords). Each wolf takes the form of Nazo himself, and although they are made of energy, they are in a solid/physical state when taking on wolf form. This allows them to attack the enemy, using bites, claw attacks, and tackles to injure the opponent. This ability allows for Jin to easily overwhelm a single opponent or to take out a larger group of weak enemies. Although being physical while in wolf form, each wolf can revert back into black energy and return to the blade it corresponds to, allowing Jin to use a variety of abilities with the energy. He can also summon the wolf back to the field.
Getsu-Shikon (lit. Moon Fang) By calling back at least one of the wolves into their corresponding blades, Jin can fire off a large slash of energy towards his opponent. It is fired by slashing with the blade the wolf/energy is in, and becomes stronger if Jin says the attacks name. After Impact or cutting through an opponent (just in case) the black energy will jump back to Jin’s side and become a wolf again.
Kuro Ude (lit. Black Arm) this is an attack that each of the wolves can perform. The attack itself is quite simple; the wolf creates a large arm from its back made of black energy, which it can use for a variety of attacks. The simplest would be for one wolf to hold down the opponent with the arm while Jin or another wolf attacked the opponent. It can also be used to hurl large objects at an opponent; as well as simply hitting them.
Mayonaka no Shōheki (lit. Midnight Barrier) Unlike Nazo’s other abilities, Mayonaka no Shōheki is strictly a defensive maneuver. It is quite simple, in that once Jin says the name of the ability, any wolf that is close enough to him will revert into the black energy and then form a barrier in front of him. This, however, will only work if there is at least one wolf within a short distance from Jin and if that wolf is not currently attacking. Other than that, the barrier itself is quite strong, but will become stronger depending on how many of the wolves reverted into black energy to make it. Its summoning is also pretty much instantaneous, as once he says the command; the wolves that are within the parameters for using this ability will automatically revert to the black energy and appear in front of Jin. This barrier, however, is only practical against stronger, long-range attacks, like a cero.
Release Phrase: “Show your mystery, Nazo!”
Bankai Name: 悪いウルフ謎 Warui Urufu Nazo (lit. Bad Wolf Enigma)
Bankai Description:Although large in size, Jin’s Bankai is actually quite simple in its appearance. Once again, it takes the form of two weapons; a large curved sword and a spear-like weapon with a claw for its blade. Each of the weapons is attached to the other by a chain, allowing him to toss a weapon and then quickly pull it back. His outfit also changes, becoming easier to move around in. Although it is large, because of its simplicity, Jin is able to move quite quickly in Bankai. His attacks also seem to be wild and varied, his two different styled weapons allowing him to perform a wide variety of attacks. Finally, Jin’s hair also changes slightly, becoming a bit shorter.
Bankai Abilities: While Jin still has the four wolves from his Shikai (albeit they are much stronger now), he also summons a fifth, even larger black wolf; Warui Urufu Nazo himself. Nazo is much stronger than any of the four other wolves, and can use all of their powers much more effectively. Nazo, however, cannot be reverted into energy, so he is always present on the field during Bankai. For fighting at full power, Jin can revert all four of the weaker wolves into the black energy and condense it within himself, increasing his power by all of their power combined.
Getsuga Araarashii (lit. Wild Moon Fang) While it is basically an enhanced form of Getsu-Shikon, this ability is much stronger as well as having a few new properties. First off, when the wolves revert to energy, they all go back to the same blade; the sword in Jin’s right hand (at least for this one ability). Second, depending on how many of the wolves reverted into energy, Jin can fire off multiple slash-blasts (one per wolf). Of course, each of these attacks are now larger as well as much more powerful. Finally, if the slash-blast doesn’t hit the opponent at first, its direction can be changed only once to go after the opponent one more time. After impact, however, the black energy will still jump back to Jin and form back into a wolf.
Enhanced Kuro Ude Carried over from Shikai, each of the four wolves can still create a large arm made of the black energy from their body. Nazo himself, however, can create multiple large, black-energy arms; allowing him to claw an opponent with the clawed arms.
Enhanced Mayonaka no Shōheki In Bankai, Jin still has to call out the name of this ability to make the wolves revert back to energy and form the barrier. Now, however, the barrier itself is much stronger, and the distance the wolf can be from Jin is also extended.
Mayonaka Kagi Tsume (lit. Midnight Claw) This ability is just one of the other ways Jin can use the energy that the wolves can revert back into. Just like with Getsuga Araarashii, X number of wolves will revert into energy, but instead of going to the blade, they will go to the claw-spear. To use this ability, Jin then uses the claw-spear to slash the air in front of himself; creating a large slash of the black energy in the shape of a claw scratch in front of the enemy. This attack is quite powerful, and he can link together multiple claw slashes, the number depending on how many of the wolves reverted into energy. After slashing, the energy will return to Jin and form back into a wolf. Jin can also combine this attack with Getsuga Araarashii, allowing for a devastating combo.
Urufuraidā (lit. Wolf Rider) The name of this ability pretty much describes itself. First, Jin makes all four wolves revert back to energy and return to him; condensing their power within himself. Next, he jumps up on top of Nazo, riding on top of him. Because of this, their powers are combined; giving them the vast speed of a wolf and Jin’s own strength. While in this form, Jin is still able to use his other abilities, but to use it more than once, he has to wait until the energy returns to him.
Kami Bātourufu (lit. Bad Wolf god) The only ability that changes Nazo himself, this is probably Warui Urufu Nazo’s strongest attack. While Jin does revert the four other wolves back to energy, all of their energy goes to Nazo instead. Because of this, Nazo becomes extremely powerful, gaining all the powers of his own Bankai form. With all of this power, Nazo grows to twice his riginal size. Utilizing this power, Nazo moves incredibly fast, almost literally appearing right in front of the opponent. Nazo then grabs the opponent with multiple of the arms created by the Kuro Ude ability. With the opponent incapacitated, Nazo finally bites down on them, inflicting an enormous amount of damage. If used against a weaker opponent (which is highly unlikely) it might literally rip them in two.
Control Over Fire: As the “god of Flames” in the Sugiura clan, Izanagi is extremely skilled in controlling fire and using it for attacks. Not only can he manipulate any already existing flame, but he can even create flames out of thin air. Because of this, Izanagi has access to a wide variety of attacks and techniques; ranging from simple fireballs to complex and simply devastating attacks. With each of his forms, Izanagi’s control over fire becomes stronger; allowing him to use more techniques as well as strengthen all of his attacks.
Fireball: One of Izanagi’s simpler techniques. As its name suggests, it allows him to create a ball of fire that is then launched at his opponent. While the individual fireball might not be too strong, Izanagi can fire multiple fireballs, even at the same time. The more fireballs you are hit by, the more damage you take. In both Zenou and Kyuu Kyou, Izanagi can fire even more fireballs, each one being stronger than normal.
Fire Bomb: Similar to Fireball, Izanagi will summon up a ball of fire. However, for this technique, the ball is summoned to his hand, and he must literally throw it at the opponent. Upon collision with the opponent or any other object, the ball of fire will explode; much like a normal bomb.
Meteor: An advanced form of Fireball, Meteor is an awesomely powerful attack. Instead of creating multiple, smaller fireballs, Izanagi will create one huge ball of fire above himself. Izanagi will then crash the large ball of fire onto his enemy; the force and heat of the attack creating an explosion upon collision.
Wall of Fire: Another simple technique, in which Izanagi creates a large wall of fire. It can be use to either shield himself from attacks or to halt an enemy’s movement (by summoning the wall right in front of them). Although not really an offensive technique, the opponent can still be damaged if they come into contact with the fire.
Prison of Flames: An advanced version of Wall of Fire, Izanagi will trap the opponent in a wall of fire. Then, Izanagi can either have the wall close in on the opponent or keep it up so that they are sealed off from the fight.
Pillars of Fire: Another technique that is described by its name. Izanagi will summon fire to come up from the ground from underneath his opponent (although he can summon it anywhere from the ground). Izanagi can also summon up multiple pillars at the same time as well as in succession.
Eruption: An advanced form of Pillars of Fire, Izanagi must literally create a ball of fire and fire it down into the earth. Once it breaks through the earth’s crust (or the crust of wherever he is) it then merges with molten lava, still being controlled by Izanagi’s reiatsu. With that, molten lava literally erupts from underneath the opponent with more strength, heat, and size than Pillars of Fire. Because it is so much more powerful than Pillars of Fire, he can only use one at a time.
Fire Breath: Although Izanagi doesn’t actually breathe fire, by holding his hand up infront of his face, his middle and index fingers pointing up, he can fire off a continuous stream of flames. The further the stream of flames travels the wider it becomes. While using this technique, Izanagi cannot move to a different spot, but he can turn to face a different direction. It is very effective against close range opponents because it is continuous.
Fire Serpents: As you may have guessed by the name, this technique is pretty much a fire version of Hyōrinmaru's ice dragons. The differences are that Izanagi creates a large fire behind himself for the dragon to emerge from, and he can summon up to eight at a time (the same number of heads as Yamata Dragon has). Each fire serpent summoned by this technique looks like one of Yamata Dragon’s heads.
Salamanders Tail: A quick yet powerful technique that only requires Izanagi to make a cutting motion with either of his hands. After doing so, a large “tail” of fire will immediately appear a few feet in front of him with the same arc his hand had. Because it is so quick, Izanagi uses this technique to surprise and overpower opponents.
River Styx: Named after the ancient Greek’s boundary between earth and the underworld, it is one of Izanagi’s stronger attacks. As implied by the name, the attack consists of Izanagi creating multiple waves of fire to engulf his opponent. To do this, Izanagi thrusts his palms forward, starting the wave motion of the flames.
Ragnarok: One of Izanagi’s strongest attacks, it requires him to use his Sakkuruddo, the spiritualist’s staff, in any form other than Kyuu Kyou. To start with, Izanagi focuses his reiatsu and a large amount of fire at the top of his staff (above the circle part) until it reaches critical levels in both reiatsu and heat. Suddenly, a huge sword made of flames will erupt from the fire; Izanagi’s staff being the swords hilt (In Kyuu Kyou the huge blade of fire is simply summoned from his hands). Not only is this sword extremely powerful and extremely hot, but with every swing Izanagi fires off a large wave of flames in the direction that he swung the sword. Because the blade is made of fire it has almost no weight, the only weight coming from Izanagi’s staff; allowing for him to swing the blade very quickly multiple times. The main drawback is the sword’s size, and is why Izanagi will only use it for one attack or chain of attacks (meaning it does not usually last until the next post).
Super Nova: Another one of Izanagi’s very powerful attacks, it is somewhat of a mix between Meteor and Fire Bomb. Izanagi will summon a ball of fire somewhere near his opponent that will rapidly grow in size. Once it reaches a critical mass, the now large ball of fire will explode in a truly devastating blast; having a large area of effect. Because of the destruction this attack can cause, Izanagi does not use it unless he is far away enough from any innocent persons to not harm them.
Burning Rage: A technique available to Izanagi once he has began to merge with Yamata Dragon (so only in one of his three forms). Upon using this technique, a large aura of red, fire-like reiatsu begins to emanate from Izanagi's body, increasing his strength dramatically and heating the air around himself. Because the aura is like a fire, Izanagi has to keep moving, otherwise he'll eat up all the available oxygen in a given area and the aura will die down.
Orochi Strike: Izanagi's strongest attack in Jousjou, he is only able to use it while in Burning Rage. For the attack, Izanagi will summon large flames around his hands and around each of the six spider leg-like ligaments. Izanagi will then rush his opponent, unleashing a flurry of punches and stabs (from the spider leg-like ligaments) upon his opponent; each one being much stronger than his normal attacks and also burning the opponent. After the barrage, the flames die down as well as Burning Rage
Enhanced Burning Rage: In Zenou, Izanagi's Burning Rage state is stronger, heats up the air more, lasts longer, and takes a longer time to die down.
Orochi's Blessing: The strongest attack available to Izanagi in his Zenou form, it starts out much like Orochi Strike. Izanagi summons large flames to engulf each of his eight hands, but instead of rushing the opponent, Izanagi stays back and instead condenses the flames into pure energy. Izanagi then fires a beam of the fire in its purest form from each of his eight hands at the opponent. The beams are so hot that upon contact, they will ignite any flammable substance instantly. Substances that are not flammable usually end up melting due to the extreme heat if hit by the beam for too long.
Wrath of Flames: The final version of Burning Rage, Wrath of Flames's aura is almost twice as large. It will increase Izanagi's strength incredibly, instantly ignite many substances within its reach, last for much longer, and take a longer time to die down. This technique reveals the true rage of Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi, the god of Flames.
Solar Devastation: Izanagi's most powerful technique, Solar Devastation is, as its name suggests, an attack of extreme proportions. As with his strongest attacks in his other two forms, Izanagi summons huge flames which engulf both of his hands and his right forearm. Next, Izanagi concentrates a vast amount of reiatsu into his hands and begins to form a large orb of condensed flames between them. The orb grows to be almost the size of Izanagi himself, and is so powerful and hot, that its energy is said to be comparable to that of the sun's. Stabbing his right fist into the orb, Izanagi will then rush his opponent, literally slamming the now white-hot orb into them. Doing this releases all of the orbs energy in an enormously devastating explosion; engulfing the opponent and the surrounding area. The damage caused by this attack is extremely high, and leaves the surrounding area scorched and devoid of life. Because it is so strong, Izanagi does not use it unless there is no other option.
