Personality:

Kinoen is violent, fight-loving, cocky, and rude. He loves fighting so much that he is unwilling to travel anywhere without a sword. However, Kinoen does have a sense of loyalty and responsibility unlike many of ranked members and is fiercely loyal to his captain.

Kinoen considers fighting fun, and tries to get as much fun as he can out of his opponents, so much so that he would take deadly risks to drag out the fight for as long as possible. He enjoys limiting his skills in order for fights to last longer. Kinoen is seen constantly smiling when engaging in a fight with a formidable opponent. He considers the only honorable battles to be those that are fought one-on-one. Even the threat of death is not a reason to ignore this fact, as they believe that the winner is only to be determined when the other dies. He does consider surviving an otherwise lost battle good luck.

Oh, and one more thing. He's gay.

Kouki is a being that never talks. Kinoen doesn't know whether Kouki is a man or a woman, he only knows that he has never once heard Kouki speak. Kouki, in its head, wants only for Kinoen to be able to protect that which is dear to him. He has no need to care about Kinoen's reasoning, he only wants Kinoen to be able to protect efficiently, and attack only when necessary. Kouki has all the power he thinks Kinoen would need to use to be able to protect whatever he wants, Kouki just believes that Kinoen needs to have something important to protect to truly use his power to its fullest extent.

Shikai Description:

In shikai, Kinoen seems to lose his top, his pants becoming loose sweat-pants. His knife has become a 5 foot long spear with a red tassle.

Shikai Abilities:

The reasons for Kinoen losing part of his clothing, seemingly exposing himself, is instantly obvious. In shikai, his reiatsu forms around his entire body. Giving his skin the durability, strength, and feel of hardened steel, while also still allowing him to move freely. He seems to be incredibly adept at the movement of his spear, and has several abilities that go with it.

Kanshi no Shouheki (Barrier of the Guard): Kinoen can hold his spear out at arm's length, facing vertically upward. When he does this, a red barrier, as tall as he is, and twice as wide, forms an inch in front of the spear's position. This is the focal point of all his powers. This barrier absorbs and nulls the damage from all energy-based attacks up to the power of a Hado #88. The real trick of this ability is thus: Whenever a PHYSICAL attack is dealt to the barrier, the barrier shoots out, acting almost like a boxing glove to the face of whoever hit it. If the barrier hits, the damage it deals to the person it hit is equal to the power of all the attacks it had absorbed that fight. For example, if someone shot a cero, and he absorbed it, and then they hit the barrier and it hit them, they would feel as if they just got hit by a cero. Also, any time he uses a melee attack with his spear, it also does damage equal to the number of attacks the barrier has absorbed. So if he has absorbed three ceros, each melee attack will have the strength of three ceros behind it, while retaining his speed and precision with the spear.

Kanshi no Dageki (Shot of the Guard): Kinoen can use his spear like a gun almost, pointing the tip of the spear at his enemies and firing bolts of red energy. The red energy shot out deals damage equal to one-third the strength of all powers that Kinoen's barrier has absorbed over the course of the fight.

Kanshi no Soufuu (Blast of the Guard): Kinoen can focus the red energy into a small aura at the tip of the spear. After he's done this, he creates a small explosion on the tip of the spear every time he hits something. Each explosion does damage equal to two-thirds the power of all the attacks his barrier has absorbed that fight. 

Kanshi no Gisei (Sacrifice of the Guard): Kinoen can charge his spear with all the energy he had absorbed over the course of the fight. He can twirl his spear and jab the end towards an opponent. This will release all the energy that he had absorbed towards the enemy in a red blast that does damage equal to DOUBLE the power of all attacks he has absorbed. The drawback being that after using this attack, his damage meter resets, setting him back to basic melee attacks.

In Bankai, Kinoen's entire body is the barrier. Including his sword. Both his armor and the sword give him two options in this form. 1.) Absorb the attack to strengthen yourself, or 2.) Deflect the attack back at the enemy or away from yourself. Obviously, he can not do both of these at once. The strength of the attacks that he can absorb increases to that of a Hado #91, all of his melee strikes now hit with double strength, his defense is five times as hard to break through, and his techniques also all double in strength. The basic concept of his bankai isn't complicated, but the inner workings of it are a powerful combination.

Background

History/Background:

From birth, to childhood, Kinoen never said much. His parents ended up taking him to several different specialists because they thought he was incapable of speech. Everyone they went to said that Kinoen was perfectly capable of speech, he just chose not to. Oh sure, he spoke, when he needed something or was in pain, but beyond that, he just didn't say much. In his high-school years, his lack of speech kept him from having many friends. He was looked on as an outcast, and a freak. He spent freshman through senior year having absolutely no friends, despite having top-grades, and being by no means unattractive. He just never spoke enough to make friends.

One day, on his way home from school, Kinoen ran across two of muggers assaulting a girl from his school. He quickly diverted his path into the alleyway and confronted the muggers.

"Who the hell is this kid?" one spat, holding a knife to the girl's throat

"No one important, I'm sure." the other one laughed heartily, rummaging through the girl's purse.

Kinoen walked forward towards them, swinging a hard right hook at the one looking through the purse, bringing him down quickly.

He turned to the other, kicking the knife from the muggers hand. The mugger retreated, running to the mouth of the alleyway. 

"Are you alright?" Kinoen asked the girl, his voice deep and compassionate.

The girl nodded before screaming and diving to the side.

Kinoen wondered why, he had only enough time to turn around before the gunshot was heard. Kinoen dropped to the ground, a bullet in his head. The mugger who ran away had come back and shot him.

After being reborn in the Rukongai, he quickly found himself extremely capable of preforming the reiatsu ball that everyone associated with soul reapers. Whether this showed his talent, or his unshakable determination, no one could figure out. He enrolled in the shinigami academy, passed the entrance exam, and was accepted in.

In the academy, it was quickly discovered that he was skilled in hand-to-hand. It was his main fighting style, he preferred it over ever actually using a zanpakuto. His kido was lacking, but his speed with shunpo was incredible for his skill level. Once graduating the academy, his cocky attitude got him into trouble. Attaining his zanpakuto further increased his cocky demeanor to the point where he flaunted his "power" everywhere he could. This led to a street brawl with several eleventh division shinigami who promptly beat him into unconsciousness and then left. While unconscious, Kinoen met his zanpakuto spirit, and fought him. Eventually attaining shikai, and waking up. After that, he joined a division, seventh, to be exact.

Kinoen's time in seventh division was what one could call drawn out. His mainly defensive abilities didn't lead to him getting moved up the ranks as quickly as he had liked.

However, he did eventually attain third seat.

And that's when everything changed.

He wanted Bankai, no, he NEEDED Bankai. He went directly to the captain of his division and asked him to help train for bankai. The captain agreed, and trained with Kinoen over the course of twelve years. Eventually, during their last sparring match, he did manage to attain bankai, but the cost of it was drastic.

After summoning his zanpakuto spirit into the real world, and breaking through his defense, Kinoen was granted bankai, followed by a large explosion of spiritual energy caused by this increase in power. Kinoen wasn't used to this sort of power flowing through him.. his mind couldn't handle it.

Suddenly, unexpectedly, he killed the captain of seventh division. More than half of the seireitei's inhabitants had been watching, as the captain had requested to cheer Kinoen on.

Kinoen was immediately made captain, and granted his title as the second most defense-oriented soul reaper within seireitei.

Extra Abilites:

Master Hand-To-Hand Combatant: Kinoen's fist fighting is renowned as his best fighting style. He rarely actually draws his zanpakuto unless it's absolutely necessary to win.

Enhanced Durability: As a largely defensive combatant, Kinoen's durability is astounding. He can take an unbelievable number of hits before actually going down.
