The King meets the Thunder Snake?

Ack... What the hell was up with this day? The violet-haired, five foot one, rather frustrated woman sighed softly, and checked the people around her with slightly narrowed eyes. Really, now, what was this? There was literally nothing to do. She's done all her paperwork, and even held a mass training session for the Eighth Division. And there were still so many hours left in the day!

She'd considered going to visit Yume... but... no, that wouldn't be wise. She had agreed not to go each and every day, so today was her day off from the love of her life. With a yawn, she sat down on a bench and stared at the crowds of Rukongai, wondering what life would be like - if she wasn't a Captain. With another large yawn, she leaned back, her back on a pole, and her eyes on the crowd.

Laughing children, happy faces, it was so... peaceful among the ruckus. That was something that Solas appreciated. A smile crossed her face, and she suddenly folded her legs onto the bench with a small 'hup' noise, and just... watched...

"Wow... I never thought watching normal souls could be so soothing... or entertaining." Then again... with nothing to do, ANYTHING seemed entertaining to this woman. She just wished that someone, anyone, would come and at least talk to the Captain of the Eighth Division.

Another perfect day in the Soul Society. This had been the though of Jin Hōsō, Captain of Squad 10 that morning. Of course, it seemed like everyday had perfect weather, but there was something about this particular day that felt good to Jin. So, obviously, he had made sure to finish his paperwork early, and quickly rushed back to his room to grab his specially made MP3 player. Popping the ear-buds into his ears and securing the MP3 player at his waist, Jin quickly chose the song "Sandstorm" by Darude and had only one thing on his mind; free running. Sure, as a Captain Jin was quite skilled with Shunpo and could easily compress the reiatsu around his feet to form platforms to stand in the air, but that didn't mean simple raw, physical speed was unneeded. In fact. with most combatants using their races high-speed movement techniques, it was actually a plus to be able ti surprise them with his raw speed. Of course, his skill at free running also carried over to his Gigai on the rare occasion he used one. Of course, now that he had the perfect song playing, Jin wasted no time in beginning his run.

Starting out in the Seireitei, Jin began by running and jumping from rooftop to rooftop, or scaling the large, maze-like walls. This, however, got monotonous real quickly, so Jin decided to head over to the Rukongai, where there would be more obstacles and an urban-like environment. So, after a little running, Jin made it to the Rukongai. For a while, everything was going quite well; Jin running up walls, doing amazing flips to clear obstacles, and running as fast as he possibly could. Soon, however, Jin saw an oddly placed pole in the distance; though not the person sitting by it. Making up his mind in a millisecond, Jin knew exactly what he was gonna do. Once he was only a few inches from the pole, Jin jumped up high, Grabbed the pole with both hands, swung around it once, and landed in a roll. Of course, as he was in the middle of the swing, he noticed a lone female only inches below him; luck being the only thing that saved her from getting hit.

So, as soon as he ended with the role, Jin stood up, turned off his MP3 player, took out his ear-buds, and turned around to face the female. "Oh crap, I am so sorry miss, I did not see you there" Jin apologized, only slightly out of breath characterized by a very faint panting. Of course, after apologizing, Jin recognized the female as Solas Foiche, one of his fellow Captains. "Oh, hey there Captain Foiche, sorry about the little scare, but when I start running, I just get in the zone" Jin said with a friendly smile, his left hand moving up to scratch the back of his head. Of course, Jin was still wearing his Captains Haori, which was now pretty dusty, so his position should be easy to guess. "I, uh, don't know if you've heard already, but I'm Jin Hōsō, the new Captain of Squad 10" he said, introducing himself. As he did so, Jin extended his right hand out to Solas for a handshake.

What... the hell was that? The Captain looked around carefully, trying to see the source of the "whoosh" from behind her. She blinked a few times, and saw the dirty Haori of the other Captain. She sighed softly, and put a hand on her forehead. Really, now.

"Are you alright?" A simple, curt question. He didn't seem to hear her, though, as he took earbuds out of his ears. An MP3 Player. Material World technology. She shrugged, and he spoke at her.

"Oh crap, I am so sorry miss, I did not see you there"

"Obviously. I'm not exactly tall." She shuddered at the quip about her height, even if she was the one who had made it. She didn't like remembering how short she was, that was for sure. With a small sigh, she looked up at the man, eying him carefully.

"Oh, hey there Captain Foiche, sorry about the little scare, but when I start running, I just get in the zone" Ah. So he knew who she was, did he? That was interesting. Then again, he was also another Captain, wasn't he? Uh... Gin? No... Jen? No, that wasn't it either.

"I, uh, don't know if you've heard already, but I'm Jin Hōsō, the new Captain of Squad 10"

Ah, Jin. She smiled at him and stood up, accepting the outstretched hand with warm and kind eyes.

"Pleasure to meet you. Sorry about being sharp. I'm not exactly receptive of sudden shocks. Or men." She shrugged, and then sat down again.

"So. Free-running, huh?" She tilted her head to the side and smiled brightly at him.

Luckily for Jin, it seemed that Solas Foiche was in a good mood; or just really forgiving. Either way, Jin was glad that there were no hard feelings over his little stunt. "Heh, hey, height's not all that important; besides, it good to have something unique about yourself" Jin said with a small chuckle in response to Solas' comment about her own height. "Besides, its more lucky that I was able to jump high enough" Jin said, making his own little joke. While he had a lot of experience in free running and jumping, there was always a bit of luck involved in it. Of course, as Jin stood there, he saw Solas not so much as a female, but as a fellow Captain. Now, that's not to say he didn't think she looked good, because she obviously did; it was more that he got a feeling from her that any attempts to woo her would be futile. This, of course, was proven by her next comment. "Hey, no worries, you've been really kind given the situation" Jin said with a smile, his comment maybe a slight compliment. "Besides, I'm not too fond of men either" Jin added with a laugh, this obviously being a joke. Well, a joke and a hint that he was straight, but Jin knew he'd get nowhere with Solas.

Solas' next question, however, got Jin a little excited. Since most Shinigami relied on shunpo to move around quickly, not many of them knew much about free running. "Yeah, most Shinigami these days rely way too much on shunpo to get around" Jin started, a charismatic smile on his face. "You see, not only is free running a great way to get around quickly in many different environments, it's also a perfect way to train my speed and agility" Jin finished, smile still on his face. "Well, ok, it's also a bit of a hobby of mine" Jin added with a small laugh. While this may have been the first time Jin had actually met Captain Foiche, he seemed to be able to talk to her as if she were a friend. Now, this wasn't an invasive way, but because his natural charisma and friendly nature, Jin was able to connect with others quickly; even if that other may not be too fond of males. Then again, Solas could find this offsetting, but she seemed kind enough from her first impression.

"Heh, hey, height's not all that important; besides, it good to have something unique about yourself"

Yeah? Well, she'd rather NOT be a full foot shorter than this man, thank you very much. If she'd wanted to be unique, she would much rather be a foot taller than most people. With a small sigh, she stretched. Ah, well. No use in caring about that. With a small sigh, she listened to the rest of what he had to say, mentally commenting on everything, picking apart his words.

"Hey, no worries, you've been really kind given the situation. Besides, I'm not too fond of men either." This actually warranted a giggle from the Captain, and she put her hand up to her mouth, smiling softly.

"I see, I see. Too bad for me, then." She winked, and poked out her tongue. And then he commented on her question about free-running.

"Yeah, most Shinigami these days rely way too much on shunpo to get around" Solas rolled her eyes. As a Shinigami who only used Shunpo when she really had to... she understood his situation perfectly.

"You see, not only is free running a great way to get around quickly in many different environments, it's also a perfect way to train my speed and agility" Hm. There was more to this.

Well, ok, it's also a bit of a hobby of mine" THERE we go. She smiled softly, and stood up, looking him over with a small smirk.

"That so? Well then." She tilted her head to the side, and gripped the pole with a yawn. "Mind teaching me?" She smirked, and looked around, trying to see a good place to get onto the rooftops.

Jin's smile widened a bit as he heard Solas giggle at his little joke, glad that she caught it. Hell, as Solas stuck her tongue out at him, Jin found himself letting out a short laugh. Sure, he knew 100% now that Solas wasn't interested in men, but hey, it's always good to have friends. Plus, it was always good to be able to get along with the people you had to work with. "Hey, to each their own" Jin said with a friendly smile. While he wasn't implying that Solas was a lesbian with this comment (although he pretty much knew by now), Jin was simply letting the other Captain know that he did not judge on any of those lines. Of course, Jin had noticed how Solas was apparently taking some time to think about everything he said. That being said, he had no idea what those thoughts might be, or even if she was listening to him at all. Of course, her next statement proved that she was, as well as prompting a grin from Jin. "Hey, I'd be glad to teach you, it's always fun to share something you're good at with others" Jin responded with a wide grin. He was always willing to show off his skills, and having the opportunity to try and teach someone was quite appealing to him.

"Oh, but I gotta warn ya, it takes quite a bit of practice to pull off some of the moves that I do, so don't try to do anything too risky" Jin warned. It wasn't arrogance that was prompting this warning, but actual years of practice and injury. Then again, as the old saying goes, "no pain, no gain". Of course, Jin noticed as Solas looked around, obviously trying to find some way to get onto the rooftops. "Heheh, glad to see you so eager, but first, let me explain some of the basics to you" Jin said with a small chuckle and warm smile. "For starters, the most important thing in free-running is momentum; you wanna make sure that each move keeps you actually moving forward" Jin began to explain, wanting to make sure that Solas understood the basics before trying it out herself. "Even with the flashy moves momentum is important; notice that when I used the pole, I made sure to swing myself around it to actually impart that momentum into my roll" Jin finished, the portion about momentum over. "Now that you've got the basics, let's start by crossing some rooftops in succession, trying to keep as much momentum as possible" Jin explained, showing a very adept skill at teaching. Hell, if one didn't know any better, it would almost appear as if Jin was a professional free running teacher.

"Hey, I'd be glad to teach you, it's always fun to share something you're good at with others" Hm? Oh, he'd be happy to teach her? That was always fun, he was certainly right. She could teach him a thing or two as well... But we'll diverge from that.

"Oh, but I gotta warn ya, it takes quite a bit of practice to pull off some of the moves that I do, so don't try to do anything too risky"

"It's not like I use Shunpo often, so as long as you have the patience, I have the practice." She nodded a couple of times at the man.

"Heheh, glad to see you so eager, but first, let me explain some of the basics to you. For starters, the most important thing in free-running is momentum; you wanna make sure that each move keeps you actually moving forward" Momentum. Got it. Don't stop moving. Don't slow down. That seemed fair enough. One wrong move could send you plummeting to the ground. That wasn't fun.

"Even with the flashy moves momentum is important; notice that when I used the pole, I made sure to swing myself around it to actually impart that momentum into my roll" Enough with the pole, thank you.

"Now that you've got the basics, let's start by crossing some rooftops in succession, trying to keep as much momentum as possible" She nodded, showing that she had heard and understood everything that he'd said. That wasn't difficult, at least not too difficult, in her eyes. Ah, well. No harm in trying, right? She nodded at him, and stepped forwards, tilting her head to the side.

"So. Any idea how we get onto this rooftop~?" She giggled, and sighed. That was the first thing, right? Getting ON to the rooftop.
